Frequently Asked Questions
Who can play SpotlightTM?
Spotlight on Minnesota™ is
specifically designed for grades 3-8 who are learning Minnesota State
History. It reinforces the concepts taught from many of the history
books used by educators. While the game was designed with public,
private and homeschooled students in mind, we’re finding it appeals to
a wide range of audiences including: families with children,
Grandparents or Senior Citizens who grew up in MN, families vacationing
in MN or spending time at their cabin, and those folks who simply enjoy
knowing about our state’s rich heritage. If playing in teams, non-readers can join in.
What works best for playing pieces?
It
all depends on the group you are playing with. Colored squares of
paper work well and can be reused, as can dried beans. Our favorites
are small candies and mini marshmellows though. When players have to
clear their board for the next game, even the losers cheer!
Where did you get the questions and answers from?
Lots of research! We scoured
various textbooks, viewed numerous state web sites and read local
papers and magazines to incorporate the facts of our state’s rich
heritage into a game that is not only fun, but extremely
educational. It is amazing how much we love our state, but, we had to
draw the line somewhere. Each game features over 100 fact-filled
questions, featuring the geography, history, important people and
trivia of our state.
How long does each game take?
It all depends on the players.
Some will want to read and discuss the questions before answering.
Others will be eager to move at a fast-pace and challenge their
opponents.
